About Us

Despite a global upwards trend in funding for neuroscience, lack of access to capital equipment due to increasing competition for funds remains a bottleneck to interesting and potentially breakthrough progress in research.

NeuroGig Ltd. and its satellite company, NeuroGig OSH (Pty) Ltd. are building a platform to enhance access to and improve the effective use of instruments within the neuroscience community. We do this by following a unique open-source hardware and community-platform approach.

Open-Source Hardware for Neuroscience

Open-source hardware has been a growing trend in recent years in consumer products (mainly driven by additive manufacturing technology becoming inexpensive, and by open-source consumer electronics companies like Arduino, Sparkfun, AdaFruit etc). The neuroscience field is no exception, with inexpensive components and the abovementioned driving factors contributing to many publications on open-source libraries like GitHub.

NeuroGig develops, reproduces and improves a selection of open-source instruments useful to neurophysiology labs who implement optical (microscopy and related methods) and electrical (electrophysiology, patch clamp etc) recording methods to acquire data.
