NeuroGiga Seals: Blog Post

Launching the Neuroscience Currency

The NeuroGiga Seal™ is the newly-launched NeuroGig “currency”. Its purpose is to to support value-exchange in the neuroscience hardware community, with its value is linked to that of the Pound Sterling or US Dollar – so one NeuroGiga Seal™ equals one GBP or USD (depending on its terms).

NeuroGiga Seals™ can be used to purchase any of the Open-Source, Builders Club community-developed or Potentiate (Previously Used) neuroscience laboratory-instruments or components on the NeuroGig website AND/OR on products listed on the website of a partner company.

If you are a Builders Club member, NeuroGiga Seals™ can also be used as payment or part-payment for instruments from ANY third-party instrument developers. When you are awarded NeuroGiga Seals™, you will receive your currency certificate, with a unique reference number. The value of this award and the reference number will be held on NeuroGig Limited’s accounting records until you decide to exchange it for equipment or components

You can combine NeuroGiga Seals (like storing money in a wallet) and use it for making larger purchases, or use it as part-payments. With NeuroGig’s expanding product range, your NeuroGiga Seals become more useful in time – these certificates do not hold an expiry date, and are valid for the duration of the company’s lifetime.

When are NeuroGiga Seals™ awarded? A few evolving possibilities:

·  To winners of NeuroGig competition grant awards

·  Awards for particular contributions to development projects

·  For NeuroGig Potentiate (Repurposed Instruments): You can receive the cash value in NeuroGiga Seals™ in instances where you are not in a position to exchange your previously-used (and now redundant) instruments for cash.

·  Builders Club members can be awarded NeuroGiga Seals™ as incentive for equipment trials or other contributions.

Legally speaking, NeuroGiga Seals are not a currency, but a special voucher intended to transfer value (like a currency…).
